The 365 Commitment

Day 342 – The Rested Soul

We spend a lot of time worrying, thinking, analyzing, fretting, regretting and planning. The soul is in a constant state of movement. Moving here and moving there. How often do we deliberately spend time letting the soul do nothing?

Here is something to add to your 365 list. Wake up tomorrow morning and write down – spend 3 hours in a seated position, listening to something calming, and just sit there and try not to focus on anything. You will think about something, but that is ok, just let it go. Instead focus on breathing and just being calm. Do you think you could do that for 3 hours straight?

This might be the hardest thing you have ever done in your life. A few years back, I went to an acupuncture practitioner. He was next door to my office, so I thought I would give it a try. He did not speak any english, only chinese. I took this as a good sign. We communicated via a picture book. After pointing at a few pictures, he learned that I was feeling – “stressed.”

He made me lie down on a table in a dark room, he put a pillow under my head, rolled up blanked under my ankles, and a heat lamp near by. Some soft music playing in the background. He motioned at me with his hands indicating – “stay down.” He left the room. He did not come back. An hour went by and then he came back in and pointed at his office. We went back into his office and he pointed at the picture book and asked me how I felt. He made his point.

I was stressed because I was not taking time to rest and relax. No medicine required. Just chill out. Stupid American.
