The 365 Commitment

Talk to People – 33 Days Left

If you have made a commitment and you intend to keep it, then you need to talk to people about it. I will agree that you need to just do it, put your head down and get it done and not stand around and brag about your “potential” accomplishments. That is bad, but talking about your intent, asking for help, seeking advice is always good.

If you have something you are striving for, struggling to accomplish then disclose that to others! 99.99 percent of the time they will appreciate, encourage and even offer to help you! Your own blasted ego gets in the way of the most single thing that can help your path the best – and that is talking to others about what you are trying to accomplish.

An unstated intent never gets aid. Every hero, in every hero tale, has to actually talk to their guide. Luke would have never learned about the force unless he talked to that old gross looking frog like creature in the swamp.

So if you are trying to achieve something, stop thinking you know it all. Believe me – you do not.  Take it from someone who naturally believes he knows everything. I have been burned by my own stupid ignorance on MANY occasions – just because I was too darn prideful to ask others for their advice. Just because you ask for a tip, does not mean you have to act on it!

Let me give you a little secret. People love to be asked for advice! They will instantly like you for even asking. So you want to achieve your wildest dreams AND win and influence solid friendships? – then ASK for help!

I am a complete newbie when it comes to running. Usually when I attack something, I pretend like I am an expert at it and try to fake it until I make it. However, with running I learned very quickly that this plan was just a bad idea. With running, the obvious is obvious. I looked like a giant walrus trying to run. There was just no faking that. News flash, anyone who actually KNOWS how to do something, can tell when another is faking. It is OBVIOUS! So stop faking, let others know what you are trying to do, and watch as the advice comes flowing in! It is actually much better then faking it. It is like faking you know how to play chess and then play a game against a Chess player and you do not even understand how the pieces move. Yeah, it is that obvious.

Ask for help and overtime – you will start to learn, and you will get better and pretty soon the people that KNOW will KNOW that you KNOW because now you really do KNOW!

So there you have it. Talk to more people about what you want to do. Easy thing to do. And to that person that gave me the advice to do some sprint training once a week to prepare for a marathon – I hate you.
