The 365 Commitment

Maximizing the Day

Today I started out slow and feeling rather sluggish. I decided to make the most out of the day by following my 365 commitment process with exactness. I spent some time in quiet contemplation, with no technology and just sitting in the dark and thinking. I went through things I was struggling with, things I wanted to accomplish and how I might be able to improve. I spent sometime in prayer and came up with a list of things I could do today to accomplish the most with the day. Here was my list:
1. Attend Church and contribute in some meaningful way
2. Hold a Session with my Personal Life/Fitness coach and Plan the Week
3. Take a long walk with my Wife and Debrief on the The Holiday Plans
4. Write physical letter to each of my children – with something heart felt
5. Write this blog and be honest about my progress
6. Meditation session with a focus on my journey toward my goals
7. Visualize my complete day tomorrow and make sure I have everything prepared
8. Complete the 365 commitment process

So I am now writing this blog at the end of the day. I accomplished most of the list. I need to do the visualization for tomorrow but I am getting tired. I will probably miss that one. However, I did attend Church. A discussion was held on how society is going away from traditional values. I objected a little saying that there were plenty of opportunities for us to enjoy the actual message of Christmas, if you were to choose to do so. A person of one faith or another can still choose to follow their path, so we should do so. Stop lamenting that others have chosen a different path and do what you can with what you have. That seemed to change the tone of the meeting and I was pleased that I accomplished my commitment.

I do have a plan for my fitness. I am suffering from an ailment that has seriously impacted my running. As a consequence my health has suffered. So I have sought help and the life coach is working on a plan with me to make some new approaches to physical fitness. We are working on a plan for better stretching, an evening relax period with some new full body exercises and to shift weight lifting to body weight exercises only. This will be easier for me to do. I am working on eating better, so I fasted most the day and my wife made an amazing low calorie, non-inflammatory meal. So did good in this area today.

The concept of being present and mindful of the way I am really thinking and acting has improved with a practice of meditation. I did that today, and had a good 20 minute session. I did not focus on my journey toward goals, but I did calm down and relax and felt better for at least doing that.

I am ending my day by recapping the 365 commitment in my journal and giving my letters to my kids. I wrote each of them a letter with a personal experience intertwined. Was therapeutic to write this myself and hopefully it will encourage them.
