The 365 Commitment

Blog 104 – That Same Old Jam

Underlying the 365 Commitment is the premise that you can get better, you can improve, you can succeed in setting and reaching goals.

Like me, you might have tried many times to change, and failed; begun exercising and then dropped it, started eating healthy and then returned to that bag of nasty chips. Robert Plant sang “No matter how I try I find my way into the same old jam.”   These are trite examples, but they make the point. We all seem to be facing this same issue.

The 365 Commitment is a tool that provides real leverage, a real advantage in this existential battle of self development by providing a daily framework that works with ant goal.

By the way, it is not just self. We develop and influence everthing and everyone around us ; when we work to make ourselves better we make the world better. In fact, if making the world better is your goal, then starting with yourself is a prerequisite.  Those who attempt otherwise will simply project and magnify the  consequences of their inadequacies upon others. We must start with and continually focus on ourselves, on our own behavior.

Some see self development as narcissistic or self centered. I see it as the opposite. Building your character, and excising your flaws is an altruistic move. It a sign of humility, because you are saving the world from the parts of youself that will do harm on some level, and will ripple out into the lives of others in negative ways.

So, in my mind, the 365 Commitment is a pragmatic was of building character so that the ripples we create in life are positive and reduce suffering.  Underlying it all is an altruistic effort to save ourseles and the world from our character flaws. And, the cool thing is it works! Start today.

Pick one thing about yorself you want to change then use the 365 Commitment process to do it, one incremental day, one incremental action at a time.
