The 365 Commitment

Day 155 – Even on Vacation

So we decided as a family to go on a little trip to somewhere relaxing. That is what we are doing, call it a small vacation. However, even on vacation I am making sure I follow my recently formed good habits. You see it is during times like this that I could sleep in, brush off good form and decide to allow myself to be lazy for a few days.

That will not work, it is 2 -3 days of breaking the habit that will end up destroying all the work you have done to create it. In the case of following the 365 commitment, you may decide to wake up on the morning and only create a list with one line item on it – but what is that line item going to be? What are you really setting out to do today.

Well my major item on my list necessitates that I do not allow thoughts of work, or other obligations pull me away. I am going to have fun with my kids today – it is a 365 imperative!

Yet I also did my wake up at 5, run, pushup, situps, squat routine. Waking up at 5, even on vacation, has massive advantages. I am able to go for a relaxing run (that is hilarious, I am actually calling a run relaxing now) and get my exercise in. Now when I think of that stop for that bit of gelato at a quaint shop with the kids yesterday – no guilt for me. I already burned at least 800 calories this morning!

I am also up and ready to go, when the kids slowly rise this morning, I will be ready. No more lazy dad, burning half the day away as I stumble away from the massive workload I was under all week. Nope – I have already shaken all that off. Every time my heel hit the pavement this morning, I was one step away from that last conference call that I had on Friday.

Today is Sunday, and usually I spend this morning getting ready to go to Church, but this time I am preparing to engage in something as equally spiritual – checking off an item on my 365 list that is of the highest importance.
