The 365 Commitment

Choices – 87 Days Left

Yes, I am still here and still up in your grill on this commitment thing. A commitment requires constant persistence, because after all the only really way anyone can improve is to keep commitments for a sustained period of time. This leads me to my topic this evening.

The better your choices, the better your progress. Can you think through today and realize the choices that you made? There were thousands of them, but if you narrow it down you can get to the more significant ones. Once you do, spend a moment and evaluate. Did you make better decisions today?

This is why I am trying to constantly remind myself of the future vision of myself. If that is fresh in my mind, I am more likely to make better choices. This is really an uncomfortable conclusion:

What you are and who you are is a direct result of the choices that you have made.

Yeah, I thought of that excuse. The one you are thinking right now. Yup, we all do. However, reality is that your choices will always have a greater impact on who you are and who you will become then your environment or other extrinsic factors.

You want to be better? Then make better choices! You do not know where to start? Well you can start by choosing better right now. Yes, you can choose to eat the salad rather then the fries. You have had enough fried foods in your life anyway!

(perhaps you realize by now, when I say YOU, I am really referring to myself!)

Choices do not require intense planning. You can simply choose the better path starting the next time. It is simple. You and your excuses are what are making this hard. Choices do not require the correct equipment. You can go walk or run around the block right now instead of watching mindless tv. You do not need that new pair of running shoes to make that choice. The old shoes will work just fine.

Choices do not require memberships either. You can choose to do something that gets your heart rate up and pushes you harder. That fancy gym membership that you think will propel you into better decision making is not needed. Just choose right now to do something more intense then eating cookies.

Choices do not require fancy vacations to reconnect with family. You can choose to spend your time with someone you love instead of that solo activity you were about ready to do.

Choices, good ones that is, are the foundation of better living. Just start making better choices and see what happens. Hey! I have an idea. You can choose to keep your commitment today. Have not done it yet? You still have time. CHOOSE.
