Resurgence – 72 Days Left

I love the word resurgence. A renewal of vigor, vitality, the rising up again. That is what I am crafting today. A resurgence. This has happened several times during my commitment for the last 441 days. I get into a lull, a few lethargic days. In times past, I would let those times ease me into a lack of motivation for a few weeks, maybe even months. But now it is different.

You see now I know what I am dealing with. That sneaky lazy part of my brain that wants me to slide into the comfort of doing as little as possible. To hide, to runway from all my challenges. I recognize what is going on now and I am not going to let that part of me win, instead I am planning a commitment resurgence.

What is a commitment resurgence you might ask? Well it is taking the commitments you have already made, spending a few moments and asking yourself why did you made them in the first place. Remembering what it is you are trying to achieve, refocusing on that all important end result and then rise up again and renew the commitment with extra intensity. Beat down that lazy side of you, show him or her who is boss. Take control and just pour on an extra load of commitment for a few days. That is right, if you were doing X then do 2X for a few days! Pour it on until you beat that loser side of yourself into submission.

How do you react when you start heading into the doldrums for a few days? You double down on your efforts. Sit down right now and plan out the next week or two and make it a double this time. Go for it. Pour your soul into your commitments. Make them count this time.

You make the most progress when you do not want to. Did that make sense? It is those times when you just do not want to do it. When you do it anyway, you are building a strong foundation of mind calluses that will propel you forward. In fact, don’t just do it anyway, do it better, faster, and for a longer time then normal. Spend extra effort. When your mind decides to get lazy, punish it with extra effort. That will teach you! Then normal days will feel like you are coasting!

So time for a resurgence. Get back at it. Rise up and show what you are made of. You really want that future self – so get up and go!
