Blog 182 – Going Up The Mountain

I’m going up a mountain today for a week long retreat where I will be a counselor.  I have never done such a thing before, so this will be new territory for me.

I am looking forward to the cooler nights and the pine smell of the forest.  The change of environment and the spiritual nature  of the week should provide opportunity for reflection and perspective.

I will take my 365 Commitment with me and hopefully be able to link this old apple computer to my phones hotspot.

Technical challenges aside, I hope this coming week will be a good reset of mind, body and spirit.  And, I hope to re-focus on my 365 Commitment process and good habits!

This suggests that our active brain can sometimes hinder us from adopting new and improved methods, favoring learned ones instead. The findings imply that quieting our inner monologue might help us find better solutions.

Studs Terkel’s 1974 book ‘Working’ explored what people truly seek in their jobs beyond financial compensation, revealing a human desire for meaning, dignity, and recognition. This perspective is increasingly relevant today with the rise of AI and automation, prompting us to reconsider the inherent value of human work.

Day 316 – Name the Feeling

Many people struggle to identify specific emotions, often lumping them into a general ‘not feeling good’ category. This article highlights research suggesting that developing ’emotional granularity’—the ability to precisely name feelings—is a learnable skill that can lead to better emotional management and personal growth.
