The 365 Commitment

Day 25 of 84 – Time, Continuance, Change

Running along Silver Strand Beach this last few days. This morning I took a pause to admire the ocean view to the West and the bay view to the East. At this spot is a landmark that notes a place where the summer solstice and winter solstice coincide to be exactly 6 months apart. December 21 to June 21. At this point someone has chiseled these three words: Time, Continuance, Change.

I guess these are three constants that we are facing right? Time will continue on. Every breath, another second had clicked on past. Relentless and consistent time plows toward the future. It does not go fast or slow, it is not good or bad. Time is just simply moving forward and we have but one thing to do. Choose how we will exist in this moment of time.

We also have continuance. I suppose there is a double meaning here. A stay of execution perhaps? No really, I think this refers to the fact that intelligence and element will just continue on, through time forever. Perspective is what is required. We get so wrapped up in the battles of each moment that we forget that 10 years from now, hundred years from now, a thousand years from now that reality will just continue on through this forward momentum of time.

Finally, we have change. The primary constant. Although time relentlessly moves forward, and everything around us persists, the one thing we can expect is change. Decay and Growth equally balanced fighting an eternal war. We are here as witnesses only. To think we could alter this in anyway is a nice egotistical thought but reality is that it does not matter what we build, what monument we erect, what legacy we leave at then end of it all, change.

So here I stand on the point of intersection where time, continuance and change have taken a brief momentary pause to allow me to reflect on my impact on the world. Well, that was over quick. Time has moved on already, the ant I was watching crawl across the compass on the ground has continued on and I feel like I might be willing to change.

So here we go, we are all in the same identical plight. What are we going to do with these seconds that are before us?
