Sleeping in, eating late, mindless screen time, on and on, O’ the bad habits that call to you.
These are like Sirens that tormented Ulysses as he sailed past on his epic heroes journey, the Odyssey. The Siren’s songs are so beautiful, they are irresistible! And, anyone who listens to them will go to them seeking bliss. But, once they have you, they will kill you and make instruments from your bones! Ulysses knew this so he ordered his crew to seal their ears with wax as they sailed past their treachery.
But, Ulysses wanted to hear their song and live to tell, so he tied himself to the mast to listen and endure the temptation. Of course he failed, he failed miserably . . . as soon as he heard their song he used all his might to break free an go to them. Luckily, his men tackled him, and tied him again saving him from certain death. The lesson is, even the strongest of ancient heroes cannot resist temptation if they listen to their call. And, it helps to have friends around who don’t listen to temptation either!
This ancient story still rings true today because human nature and the life experience has not really changed, and the lesson still holds. The Sirens are real, they are the temptations and bad habits that will lure you with their song. Put wax in your ears!
I guess this means , when you start to hear that voice calling to you “your hungry! one piece of cake won’t be a problem . . . you deserve to stay up late and relax . . .” avoid that conversation! Distract yourself with something else, because if the ancients are right, and I think they are, you will not be able to resist once you begin”listening.”
Bad habits will turn your bones into instruments to be played by the dark spirits, this gives a whole new meaning to the term “getting played!”
Think about how to avoid listening to the voice of temptation. Get Some Wax!
