Blog 208 – Epic Roadtrip

I’m living the the dream!  Finally and epic road trip with my family.  We are taking my daughter across the country in our conversion van to start her freshman year at college.  It is a right of passage that I am proud to confer to her.  Her younger brother and sister get to come along for the ride and enjoy a cross country roadtrip with Mon & Dad; our little dog “Hope” is becoming a pretty good road dog too.

Right now we are rolling across the Texas pan handle, driving through an occasional column of rain showers, and then out in to the glorious sunlight!  All day we have enjoyed the huge skies above and the sparsely populated countryside all around.  We’ve gone from low desert to high desert to alpine forest to  red-rock monuments to grasslands.  We even took some detours on old parts of route 66 that still hold the remnants of motels and diners of a bygone American past I remember glimpses of when I was little.

I’ve always wanted to do a cross country road trip with my kids as part of their growing up experience.  Now as my oldest is on the threshold of adulthood and leaving home for the first time, we’ve managed to make it happen in the nick of time.  It is sweet, and it is a little sad to sense the passing of time and life’s milestones so acutely.

Feels good, this long awaited experience is happening and it’s great.  What are those experiences you’ve always wanted to have?  Don’t  give up, you can make them happen. It’s all about getting a vision of what you want to make happen and then taking incremental steps toward your goal.

You may not need to buy an old Dodge conversion van and continually dump money into fixing it for 8 years, you may not have to live with a crappy paint job like I did,  or install a new carpet kit and speakers, and fix a high pressure power steering line hours before leaving on your trip, but if you do, it just might be worth it!!
