Day 117 – In 365 Days from now I will…

So yesterday I took this goal, what I want to be concept seriously and started trying to really think about where I want to focus my time, talent, and energy. I started figuring out that it is much easier to tackle this with a shorter time frame in mind. So that is when I decided that every statement needs to start with: “In 365 days from now I will…”

I have to be careful because my tendency is to be really good at creating goals, but horrible at actually achieving them. So after I have considered each statement, I am then asking myself what is it that I am willing to do everyday for 365 days to make sure that this happens. Meaning – starting now – every day I am going to focus on this and build a great habit into my personal life that will ensure I accomplish the objective.

So on March 1st I set one of these. It was basically, In 365 days from now I am going to look and feel physically healthy. I decided I was willing to wake up everyday at 5am, run at least 2 miles, do +1 Pushup, do +1 Situp, and do +1 Squat. I decided those were the things that I was willing to do in order to achieve my goal. So I have decided that my sacrifice to achieve this was to do those 5 things everyday for 365.

Consider this. Create a statement of a similar construct. In 365 days from now I will… After you are done with that statement, ask yourself how you would feel accomplishing that? What would you be thinking about? How would you look and act on the day you accomplished that in 365 from now? Can you create a vision for this? If you can, great. Now think (remember my blog on WOOP?) what is going to get in my way? What is really stopping me from accomplishing this? What am I going to prepare, ahead of time, to overcome this obstacle? This is where you create a plan. The thing you are going to do, remind yourself about, review, contemplate or check off every day for 365. You are aware of what you want, you are real about your obstacles and you have a plan to overcome. So now go and actually do it. Starting now. Today is day #1.

I am on 117 of my first commitment, and 67 of my second major commitment. This formula is working. It is really simple, but sometimes simplicity is what is required. What do you really want? All you need to do is commit to the thing you are going to do everyday to get there and do it.
