Day 213 – Distant Horizon

When you are walking in the desert, you will often see something you are progressing toward on the horizon. This will often be a mountain, rock out cropping or some other geological oddity. From 20 miles out you cannot really see what it is is, or understand any details. You certainly have no idea of what lies between you and that object. All you know is that there is an object there and that if permitted, you could head in a straight and eventually reach it.

This is much like setting an objective and having faith that you can accomplish it. You can see it on the horizon, you know it is there and in fact you can see a path to get there. However, you have no idea what lies in your path to get there. You do not know the challenges that you will experience to arrive at that eventual destination. You also really do not know if, once you get there, you will be satisfied with what you find.

The point is that you and the desert traveler need to have something absolutely critical in common. You are going to set your sight on something and head toward it. With this attitude of faith and focus you will succeed. I cannot say what you will succeed at, or how you will succeed or even if you will ever get to the objective you started out to reach in the first place. The point is that you are on a journey and you are not afraid to start because on that distant horizon you can see something worth obtaining.

I have said this a 100 times on this blog, but I will say it again. You simply have to get on the path.
