Blog 254 – Sustaining Conscious Change

Change happens whether we like it or not.  Time goes by, things change.  The question is, whether change promotes meaning and well-being in our lives or make things worse.  Conscious change we make in our own lives, and within organizations we belong (companies, families, social groups), should always strive for the former.  Make things better!  If you stand still or give in to dysfunctional change – life will become more painful than it already is.

So, we believe in being the architects of positive change, starting with ourselves.  This is the what The365Commitment is all about. So, you’ve jumped in and begun working to consciously change yourself for the better.  How do we re-enforce and sustain the changes?  How do we keep from petering out?  I have some answers . . .

Tap into the energy of the Leader.  Find the leader within yourself – that  King or Queen spirit that can do the following: create and communicate a vision of the future, create and maintain order, make decisions and enforce them, and encourage and inspire our spirit.  This King or Queen part of yourself must be leading the change within you!  If it’s not there then tap into him/her and convince it to lead the change.

Regularly review and communicate (if only with yourself) the benefits and outcomes you seek as a result of the changes you are making (goals you are pursuing & habits you are building).  Think about why you are making the effort, why you are doing things differently every day.  Focus on the outcomes and benefits you seek and do not take your eyes off of them.  Check i-in with yourself and with God daily and hold a dialogue about the changes you are making.

Finally, measure your progress.  In fact, you should begin any change with a measure for success.  How will you know when you have succeeded if you cant tell when you’ve arrived?  Figure out what measurement you can use, there are many.  Keep track of progress and setbacks in order to know what is working and what needs adjustment. Measure and track so you know when you have arrived!

Finally, celebrate and enjoy our success!  Throw a party! Treat yourself well!  Recognize and bask in the benefits wrought from the conscious changes you have made.  Congratulations.

Life is always changing and you will be run over by the inertia of all things around you unless you choose to be the architect of change yourself.  Join The365Commitment  and remember to sustain and re-enforce your changes; tap into the King/Queen/Leader within you – embody that spirit, communicate and remember the benefits and outcomes you seek, measure your progress and celebrate when you attain goals along the way, and adjust as needed. It feels good when you move toward your goals!  Rinse and repeat.
