I was there the day that Greg Lemond won the Tour of the Moon Bicycle Race at the National Monument in Grand Junction, CO. This was part of the Pro-Am Coors Classic, at the time the largest race of its kind in the world. Lemond won the race in 1981 and then again in 1985. The movie, American Flyer with Kevin Costner memorialized this time. Worth the watch, not for the acting, but for the scenery.
Today, as I left my hotel this morning, they were kicking off the race. So I decided to run in the basic same direction. I did not go the full 64, but it was beautiful nonetheless. Coming back, I ran through the finishers corral. I felt like Greg Lemond.
