I am focused on accomplishing a marathon soon. I am trying to drive myself, align myself to get there. I am feeling that accomplishment would be a symbolic measurement of the improvement of my health that I started 321 days ago with the wake at 5am, run, do +1 pushup, situp and squat routine. I plan to complete a marathon, but I also want to finish in under 4 hours. This would be a magnificent accomplishment and probably one of the most personally significant things that I have done in my life. This will also mark the beginning of my next quest – which is to run an ultrathon (100 miles).
So, this morning I started a new pattern which required running 10 miles today. I started out really sluggish, but I plowed though. I finally crawled my way to mile 7 and in the pattern I was running that put me near my house. I was seriously considering abandoning my 10 mile requirement and saying 7 miles is enough. However, just as I made that decision the channel I was listening to on my phone played a song by Eminem called, Afraid.
Now, I really hate quoting Eminem on my blog but I have to say the irony was not lost on me that it was the chorus of an Eminem song that convinced me to push on through to 8 mile. As I did so, the rain coincidentally started pouring down. With water streaming off my eyelids, the song went:
I’m not afraid
To take a stand
Everybody
Come take my hand
We’ll walk this road together, through the storm
Whatever weather, cold or warm
Just lettin’ you know that you’re not alone
Holla if you feel like you’ve been down the same road
Well, Mr. Mathers I loathe your vulgar nature sometimes, but I have to say that in that moment I was hollerin!
