I think you know my opinion. The absolute best 1st habit to form is The 365 Commitment. Focused daily priorities with morning and evening prayerful review.
However, after you have succeeded at that, each day will progress and after a while you will keep reminding yourself each morning that you have to fix some aspect of your life.
That will be your next habit. Mine for me was waking early and exercising. After 50 days of contemplating the fact that I needed to be more physically active, I finally committed to making it a habit.
So if it keeps coming up, it is a great candidate for habit formation. The second reason you might know that you have discovered a potential habit, is if you do not want to do it.
That is right. If you are avoiding it, or just do not want to even think about doing what you know you must, then that is your next best habit.
Find something broken, find something you are trying to avoid and come up with a regular pattern of behavior that will slowly and via increment improve this part of your life.
You will most likely fail as you attempt to implement habits in these areas, they get tougher as you go. Here is some advice. If you fail, it is because you were trying to do too much to fast. Rebuild the habit with a smaller and easier to achieve increment try again!
