Day 286 – The Path

A weird human paradox is that we labor really hard to become as comfortable as possible, yet when and if we ever get there remaining in a state of comfort is bad for us. Imagine a young man with his little family living on the plains trying to make a living by using the land to feed his family. He works really had to build that nice little practical farm house that gives his family comfort, but if he actually were to take much time enjoying that comfort it would be soon lost.

We work hard to make a ton of money so that hypothetically we could then do nothing, but if when we get there actually decide to do nothing – then it would be bad for us. Really bad. You can go to the gym and work out really hard for a long period of time and build an awesome fat burning machine but then if you decide to actually lay around and eat sugary and fatty foods all the time then it would have a bad result.

So the path is what is good for us, not the goal. In fact the goal needs to be unobtainable, because the second you obtain it – your condition worsens. Extreme example – we want to live good lives to get to a glorious after life. We do our best to live by a moral code to get there, and when we do get there it means we are now actually dead. You see – the goal needs to be ultimately unobtainable for it to be effective!

The quest to be rich, the quest to be healthy, the quest to win the affections of another is always better then the result. How many women have complained that their husband was awesome when he was chasing her but when they got married the situation changed? Basically all of them! The path is what is important. Secret for all women out there – never let a man know that he has truly got the goal, always keep him guessing and reaching for the next plateau in the relationship and you will have him on the path and he will definitely perform better as a husband.

The second you let a human know they have arrived, they stop running. The trick is to keep them running and never quite get there. It is horribly disappointing to realize this – if your true goal is the end. That is why you need an adjustment. Your goal is not the end, it is the path!

The path to becoming awesome is always going to be better then the day you think you are awesome. If that day arrives an you declare, I made it – I am awesome – is probably the day before it all gets taken away from you because you are no longer hungry, full of arrogance and generally no longer motivated to stay on the path. My advice – set an impossible unobtainable goal and wake up everyday and write down what you are going to do to achieve the impossible.

Much more human way to approach success.
