The 365 Commitment

Day 4 of 84 – Not Done

Spent all day at the U.S. Open, long day of that activity. I also had a few other things to deal with. Of course, watched the NBA finals tonight at a restaurant. Being on my sprint means that I did not eat bad today when I had many opportunities to do so, and when I come rolling in back from the hotel at 10:30pm – I am not done.

Not done because there are things not complete yet. My body weight exercises, this blog, and a few other commitments. No, I am not done. No excuses. A commitment is for real. When you make one stick to it no matter what the circumstances. My circumstance is late at night and tired from walking around all day.

I supposed when you can feel so guilty about not keeping a commitment that you would rather just suck it up and do it anyway so that you can avoid the guilt of it – then you have developed a pretty good habit. The not done until I am done habit. How do you get there? I am not quite sure on that, but I think it starts with keeping a consistent habit long enough, you will become dependent on it or find yourself really uncomfortable to not do it.

It also comes by holding yourself accountable, by tracking and reporting on the commitment frequently. The one thing that I have focused on the most is tracking my progress and reviewing how I am doing every night. This has created a certain accountability that reminds me of what is important, and helps me to not lose site of the objective, or the promise that I know that I will achieve if I keep it up long enough.

So here I am writing in the hotel gym, ready to do some body weight routine. I am not going to take any shortcuts, although that certainly is tempting. I could choose to not do a few of the exercises, no one would really know, right? Ha! Not going to happen. I am going to get everything done today, and I am going to commit to the activity with as much energy as I can mustar.
