The 365 Commitment

Day 24 – Do not forget the most important question!

It is easy to fall into the trap of going through the motions. Now that I have got to the point where I automatically remember to open up my 365 (this is what my family is calling the notebooks we are all carrying around now), I have realized that I fall into the trap of just simply filling out my list, saying a prayer, and then ordering them by priority and then moving on.

This is a good behavior, but not the true intent. The reason that creating this list first thing in the morning, before anything starts, is so that you can take control of your day before it takes control of you. When you sit down and start crafting the list, you must think of the most important question. This is probably the question to ask during prayer/meditation – “What is the most important thing I can do today?” You could also rephrase, or ask additionally – “Who can I help today?”

The point is – and this is serious – that you will most likely not remember or even see the impact of 99% of what you put down each day on your list. However, the ONE thing you accomplish or the ONE person you help could have a dramatic influence on your life, the life of others and will probably be the thing that propels you forward to your ultimate ambitions.

I absolutely promise (if you choose to have faith in this whole process) that your goals (if aligned with the Will of God, or Universe if you prefer) will come true if you spend everyday of your life asking this most important question. It is just a simple question. My guess is that the reason we struggle waking everyday and asking this question is that we are afraid of the answer, we are afraid of the responsibility that we will assume by understanding the true path we have to take. You see, here is a cold hard dose of reality for us – to accomplish greatness – you have to do a series of great things for a long extended period of time.

And I am not referring to Brittney Spears type of Greatness (I guess I need to update my references – perhaps Taylor Swift greatness?). I am referring to the type of greatness that influences the hearts and minds of others. The type of greatness that only a person in harmony with the will of God could possibly hope to achieve. I do not think you measure that type of greatness with fame or fortune, I think it is measured in a much different way. Only those who understand really understand. Not sure I am the one to explain that, as I am still aspiring and probably will the rest of my life!

Perhaps we could take a moment to reflect that even aspiring to greatness is somehow a bad trait, an arrogance if you will……..Bah! I aspire to greatness and I am not ashamed! I may never get there – but being on the correct path is really comforting for me. So everyday (at least for 365 in a row) I am going to wake up in the morning and ask the most important question!
