Day 188 – Accountability

To be successful you have to have a mechanism to hold yourself accountable. You cannot expect to automatically follow through with commitment unless you are held to accountability. You simply will not do this yourself. You will not. This is one of the principle reasons why you fail in keeping commitments!

So how do you resolve this? You create an accountability paradigm that makes you very uncomfortable with failure. Think Weight Watchers. You show up once a week and “weigh in”. This formula works. Think AA. You show up once a week and tell your support group how you did this week and how many days you have been off substance abuse.

You want to improve? Find a way to get held accountable by third parties. The more the better. You may realize that is one of the primary purposes behind this blog. I simply just cannot fail – because I never want to miss a blog, and I certainly do not want to have the day where I say – sorry – I did not keep the commitment today.

I also REALLY do not want to have a (1) behind my name!!

You should deliberately ask others to hold you accountable. Schedule a once a week meeting where you have to review your progress with them. You will find that you will NOT want to disappoint the person that is holding you accountable. This method works!

I have been thinking a lot about accountability lately. Accountability is absolutely necessary for success for yourself or the teams of people you lead.
