Day 282 – Focus on Others

When in trouble, focus on others. When you are in doubt as to what you can do today that is the most productive, focus on others. Put your own issues aside once and a while and enjoy seeking out someone that needs help and actually help them. Not in a casual sort of way, not in a superficial sort of way but in a complete way. Find out something that a friend, loved one, colleague or stranger really needs help with and dedicate a concentrated amount of your day focusing on really making a difference.

Why does this help? I think there are many reasons, some of them spiritual and some of them practical. The point is that it works. Getting our of your own head now and then and working on doing something to help another is probably one of the most restorative things you can do to improve your mental condition. It will exhaust you, but it will be a good sort of exhaustion.

So take a day and wear yourself taking on the burdens of your neighbor. Make that your 365 commitment one day. A day well worth spent in my opinion.
