I am wondering what the ingredients are for resolve. Habits are critical, but without resolve the habit will quickly fail after the first string of days.
I think resolve requires at the outset a real desire for improvement. If the want for something better is just casual, then there will be little commitment to follow through. I believe that requires a lot of self inspection, humility, and ultimately an awareness of how things really are.
Once a strong desire is in place, resolve can be motivated by bringing in several motivating factors. Letting others know what you are trying to do can be powerful. Working on your commitment with others is also very uplifting and can help you pull through the tough times. Also, finding sources of inspiration to pull from can assist resolve by providing clarity when the clouds come in.
An audacious goal also helps. The more crazy the better. For some reason, reaching for the stars and stretching beyond your capacity is powerfully motivating. Why is it that we want the impossible more than anything?
I think this is a worthy exercise, to try and figure out how you can continuously strengthen your resolve. You can also look for things that cause your conviction to falter and remove them.
