Day 318 – What If?

One of the sources of inspiration on this blog has been David Goggins. He is the one that I have to thank for the “embrace the suck” concept that has me doing so many pushups everyday. I was listening to random youtube videos while running yesterday and I landed on a short 1 minute sound byte from him asking the question, “what if?”

This is a tool that he asks himself when he is right at the point of failure or giving up. What if I was the guy that was able to pull this off despite the harsh conditions? What if I was the person that figured this out? What if I was able to do this, what then?

What if. Once a again the concept of visioning the future comes into play. What if is another way of trying to take a peek into your future self. By taking a look at what you could be, you have a strong inclination to do the right thing now.

What if I could write a book? What if I could run everyday for 365 days? What if I could do 1000 pushups? What if I could be in the best shape of my life at age 50? What if I could run an ultra marathon (100 miles)? What if I could be completely financially solvent?

What if is a great question to ask yourself when you are struggling to do the right thing.
