Someone to Love – 124 Left

Perhaps because it is my wife’s birthday, but this morning I was contemplating what I lean on the most when times get tough. I realized after I reviewed several tools, techniques, and several motivational sources that the single most valuable source of strength has been standing right next to me the entire time!

So I am lucky, or blessed depending on your perspective that I have a built in support person always in my corner. The interesting point I want to raise is that I have never been able to be successful at anything without having a core group of people to support, motivate and encourage me. Stupid me sometimes thinks that I accomplish good things because of my own actions – but if I really look at it carefully I notice that it was really the people that I surrounded myself that enabled me to do good things. How often do I really acknowledge that? Probably not enough.

Anyway, back to the main point. It is my opinion, that if you really want to be successful at keeping a new commitment or improvement in life – you have to engage your support team – the people that you love (trust). Everyone needs a pit crew and everyone should be on a pit crew! If your support team does not know what you are trying to accomplish in your life, then how can they help you? So I remind myself constantly, the people you love should know what you are doing and why. Get them on your side.

Last idea – it is probably (and I am horrible at this) to try to help others more than you seek help from others. Every morning as part of my 365 commitment I ask myself the question – “who could I really help today.” I hardly ever really help anyone, but perhaps if I keep asking myself that question every morning it might get through my thick skull that it is better to serve then to be served.
