Finishing a Commitment – 99 Days Left

Did not have a chance to post a blog today as I was busy travelling, but wanted to end today on a good note. Today marks the 364th day of my commitment to do the following 5 things every day:

  1. Wake up at 5am
  2. Run
  3. Do +1 Pushup
  4. Do +1 Situp
  5. Do +1 Squat

I made this commitment during my company’s sales kick off last year. Here I am 364 days later preparing to head off to my company’s sales kick off again and have the opportunity to reflect on what has happened during the last year of making this commitment. I sort of had a vision of the future, of what I wanted to accomplish. However, most of it was health related. I determined that my physical health was impacting my emotional, mental, spiritual health and I needed to do something about it. Waking up that fateful morning, I stared in the hotel mirror and decided to “ride at dawn” and start a commitment and no matter what happened I would keep those 5 commitments.

So before heading home today, I ran in the early hours of the morning. I did pushups all throughout the day. Just finished my squats and before I go to bed I will do the situps. I am truly a changed person after keeping this commitment. Funny how a year ago, a long day of traveling like this would have had me passed out on the coach decided to leave the task of unpacking for tomorrow. A year later and I am doing pushups while waiting to fill my gas tank, and wrapping up the last of my commitment before going to bed.  The physical change is obvious. I have lost a lot of weight. I have definitely improved my health in many ways, I have improved strength, stamina and energy throughout the day. I also generally feel better about many things. I have ran some professional races, I am clearing about 50 miles a week now running and am preparing for a marathon in earnest.

Yeah, I know. Life will knock me off my high horse in short order, but the point of this narrative is really to encourage others to make a serious commitment and keep it for 365 days in a row and see what happens. I am telling you the result will be nothing short of miraculous. So do you have what it takes? Does not have to be my commitment, but a commitment. Pick something achievable, but serious and keep doing it everyday. I promise that your day 364 will be just as amazing.
