The Delicate Art of Live Frog Eating – 119 Days Left

When I first started out on this journey I was reminded about something that Mark Twain wrote. The concept was that if you ate a Live Frog in the morning, then everything else you did that day would seem easy by comparison. 344 days ago I decided to make a personal commitment to dramatically improve my physical health. Essentially, I would wake up at the same time every morning, run, do pushups, situps, and squats. The reason I picked those 4 things – is because I hated them the most. The were also completely under my control. Nothing was stopping me from going outside and running, and nothing could easily get in my way when I committed to doing pushups. I figured if I could slowly become accustomed to doing the things that I did not like, then that would increase my capacity as a person.

I decided to get these new habits done as early as I could in the morning. That way they are done, and the rest of the day just feels easier.  Effectively my Live Frog. I have not always got the pushup, situp, squat routine done every morning. Sometimes, I just do not have the time. Travel schedule typically is the problem. Those days really suck! The reason is that when the day wraps up and I am really ready to quit, I have to really dig deep in order to muster the will to accomplish these exercise habits. Yes, there have been days when I am in my hotel room at 11:30pm barely awake, just trying to make it through the last remaining pushups.

The better days, are when I get them all done early and quickly. Life just seems better when I get the tough ones done first. Get your commitment done right away, and then there is no chance you will miss it. You will also feel a sense of accomplishment for the rest of the day. A good feeling to know that as you get ready to tackle the day, you have already accomplished a really tough personal commitment.

Do you have a Live Frog to eat this morning? Bon appetit!
