The 365 Commitment

Day 22 of 84 – Low is High

My new low is my old high. I supposed that is a real sign of progress. As I felt like I was crawling through 4 miles of running this morning, and un-enthusiastically doing pullups, pushups, dips and other body weight exercises I was feeling sort of out of sorts. Just dragging through the motions so to speak. This week is a short work week, which might have something to do with that feeling. Perhaps it is a few stressful things that I worried about today. At any rate, I hit a low point this morning and as I was rounding a familiar corner this morning in my neighborhood something struck me.

I have ran this same corner countless times during my journey. I remember the first time that I made it all the way around the 2 mile track in my neighborhood and how excited I was to hit this new high point. 2 miles! Really! Wow! I was so impressed with myself. Now, I am “crawling” through two laps around and feeling down about it. When I say crawling btw, I am running a full 3 minutes faster then I was running when I had that high point of my first neighborhood lap.

So a year ago, I would have been stoked to run around my neighborhood twice at 8:45 per mile. That would have been an amazing new high point. Now it is my low point. Wow. How times have changed. However, is that not always progress? You are not really shooting for new highs, you are really aiming for higher lows!

When your low point is what used to be your high, I guess that means you are making progress. I will take that as encouragement to keep on going. Picking myself up off the ground after hitting a low this morning, and tomorrow, I will strive to push myself even further. Perhaps hit a new high!
