Blog 210 Exploring New Territory

Today I am looking forward to driving down new roads, seeing unfamiliar territory. I have always bech attractIed to novelty, the new ( to me) road; so, today I will take some side roads away from the Interstate Hwy.and see some new places we have been wondering about.

There are obligations and commitments that are calling me home soon, but today presents a rare opportunity to just explore.

I think we all need a balance of maintaining the known and pursuing the unknown. Of course the quantities and proportion vary between iindividuals; I have been in and remain in a battle to maintain more consistency and stability than perhaps would be my preference, for the sake of raising children.

I grew up moving around a lot, changing schools often, so I grew accustomed, or at least adapted to lots of change. I attended 5 highschools within a 2 year period at one point. Too much change. So, part of my motivation as a parent has been to provide stability for  my kids.

But, now we are experiencing our first child leaving the nest; she is off at college now and the family dynamic is altered, now we will have just 2 kids at home. This represents a new road.

Sometimes we choose the new roads to explore, like I will be doing today as we continue on the return leg of our roadtrip, and sometimes life puts us on new roads as a matter of course, like when kids grow up and leave home. Either way I wi ll enjoy the experience of the new and relish in exploring new territory with boldness and caution – and interesting dichotomy.
