Blog 253 – The “Opportunity” – One Day Stronger

Today I have an interesting opportunity.  I don’t “feel” like doing anything.  But, I have a long list of things that I need to take care of and I have my 365 habits that I am committed to practicing.  My “opportunity” is to practice habits I am committed to, and complete important tasks despite not feeling like it.  I stand at the crossroads.  For sure, the road less traveled is named opportunity, and the road I have been down too may times is “apathy” or perhaps it is “distraction.”

I envision myself at the end of the day, tired and having just absolutely crushed it!  Without a doubt I made the decision to focus on my goals and not my current emotional state.  I can feel a little bit of excitement, just a little, percolating in my mind as I contemplate success.  How will I feel if I jump into constant action all day regardless of my “feelings.” What would it mean?

It would be a victory for my better self, the part of me that is of higher mind, the rational per-frontal cortex Ben.  I imagine he would be strengthened knowing that actions were taken based on sound rational decisions.  He might even get a few extra nuerons out of the deal. It would be a victory for “future Ben.”  After all, future Ben will not have to deal with the onerous tasks I complete today.  He will be free to enjoy the benefit of the completed tasks and tackle newer and better challenges.  He will not have to rationalize why he failed to practice a habit that he has committed to doing.  Instead, future Ben will enjoy a feeling of satisfaction of a good habit getting one day stronger.

I am on day 2 of a 3 1/2 day fast.  Not eating has freed up a lot of time, but it has also induced a bit of malaise.  Nonetheless, I will capitalize on my “opportunity.” I’m going to use two methods. 1) Caffeine and Cacao.  I just made a nice cup of coffee with some stevia and a teaspoon of cacao. (I do not fast from coffee or water – just everything else) 2) The Blast Off countdown method.  I am going to count down 5,4,3,2,1  and blast -off into my list and habits. No thinking! No letting my mind talk me into doing other things!

OK, here I go  . . . .    5-4-3-2-1 BLAST-OFF! (cue the Rocky Theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioE_O7Lm0I4)
