The 365 Commitment

Who has the Power?

I had this really complex dream last night. Still trying to figure out what the meaning behind it all means. Here is essentially the story:

Walking outside my door, I was immediately grabbed by a couple of unknown assailants who blindfolded me and put me in restraints. I was then thrown into a vehicle and we drove very what seemed like a long time. I was then asked to remove myself from the vehicle and then we walked for a few strides across what seemed to be like a desert like environment. I could feel the rocks under my feet, some brush against my legs and a warm wind blowing across my arms and face. The restraints were removed and my right hand was tied to what felt like a steel pole. A large object was placed in my left hand and I was ask to hold that object with my arm extended. I could get a sense that the object was attached to something via a cable or wires. The assailants then gave me instructions to not let the object in my hands fall to the ground and then I heard them hurrying off and a few moments later could hear the distant sound of a vehicle start and quickly head off into the distance. So there I am standing, one arm extended with a heavy object, the other hand tied to a metal pole and a blindfold across my eyes. My initial attempt to remove the blindfold was met with resistance as the object in my left hand would not move closer to my body then it was in my extended arm. I then woke up. Clock on my phone showed 12:00am.

The question I have related to this dream, was who has the power in this story? There at first glance seem to be several candidates.

The assailants – clearly the aggressors in this story, they know what they did and why. The understand the potential outcome here better than I.

The object – the object itself clearly has some power, to destroy perhaps? Maybe not? However, the unknown outcome is certainly an element of power.

Nature – The elements around me certainly have some latent power. The wind, the sun will certainly have an impact on this situation over time.

Creatures – There could be some unexpected guests if this is indeed a desert environment. Buzzards, Scorpions, Ants, Coyotes, Bobcats or Rattlesnakes. They could all wield a certain amount of power in this situation.

God or the Waking Mind – Perhaps you are the metaphysical of sorts and you quickly went to the fact that this was a dream and that the real power lies with the waking mind, the mindfulness of the human spirit, and/or God.

Then perhaps the only person or thing that has any true power in this situation is myself and perhaps that is the lesson of the dream, if there is one. I certainly have the immediate and direct power to change this situation very quickly. The thing in the way of me exercising that power is fear of the unknown. So perhaps fear itself, and an abstract entity, yields all the power until I decide with my own will to rip that power away by making a decision.

To conclude this dream interpretation, in my waking thoughts I concluded what I would have done. I would drop that object and as fast as possible, removed the blindfold and face my fate with eyes wide open.

That is how I roll.
