Advice from one of the letters attributed to the Apostle Paul, was that whatever you do, do it heartily. He was referring especially of the things that you hold affection for, which should be from things above (meaning God).
Do it heartily. This means to focus and accomplish things to a greater degree, if not the highest degree. It also indicates that when you do something with heart, you do something with personal investment. Personal feelings are not to be disregarded or dispassionate ignored but rather welcomed.
When someone cooks something good in the South they are said to “put their foot in it.” This means to be personally invested in the outcome, so much so that you put your whole self into the art, including your own foot. That is doing something heartily.
If you are going to do something, do it with your whole soul and nothing less.
