Day 102 – Force of Nature Regenerative Bison

In a world that often moves too fast, we sometimes need moments to pause and reflect on what sustains us, guides us, and inspires us to grow. Recently, I found myself captivated by an unexpected idea while glancing at a menu at True Food Kitchen, a restaurant emphasizing sustainability and natural ingredients. Amid the list of pizzas was a description featuring “Force of Nature regenerative bison.” While the phrase primarily touted the brand’s commitment to ethical and regenerative farming practices, it stirred something deeper in me. Could I embody the spirit of a bison—a force of nature—during this season of my life?

The Bison and Regenerative Agriculture

The concept of regenerative agriculture is a modern evolution of sustainability. It moves beyond merely preserving the environment to actively improving it. Animals like bison play a vital role in this process. By grazing, fertilizing, and aerating the soil with their hooves, bison mimic natural ecosystem processes that restore land health. Unlike industrial farming practices, which deplete the earth, regenerative farming fosters biodiversity, water retention, and vibrant ecosystems.

But as I pondered the term “force of nature,” my thoughts wandered beyond agriculture to something more personal. The bison, a creature synonymous with abundance, strength, and resilience, began to resonate with me as more than just a farming hero. It became a symbol of how I want to live.

The Role of Spirit Animals

Throughout history, cultures worldwide have embraced the idea of spirit animals as symbols of guidance and personal transformation. From Native American traditions to indigenous practices across continents, animals have long represented traits or characteristics that inspire or guide us. These symbols often emerge naturally, through life experiences or moments of reflection.

For me, this idea isn’t just about mythology or superstition. A spirit animal is a metaphor—a touchstone to focus on during challenging times. It can reflect who we are or who we hope to become. For years, my spirit animal was the frog. Frogs, with their life cycle of metamorphosis, symbolize renewal and transformation. At a pivotal time in my life, this connection felt deeply meaningful.

Yet, as I’ve grown and evolved, I’ve sensed that the frog’s symbolism no longer aligns with where I am today. I began to wonder: What new symbol could guide me now?

Why the Bison?

The bison’s symbolism is deeply rooted in Native American culture, where it represents abundance, strength, and a sacred connection between the land and the divine. To the tribes of North America, bison were life-givers, providing food, shelter, and tools. Their abundance was a testament to the earth’s generosity, and their resilience in harsh climates embodied strength and survival.

As I reflected on this, the bison’s traits felt perfectly aligned with what I need in this season of life: strength, endurance, and perseverance. Life’s challenges have demanded that I dig deep and find new reserves of resilience. The bison inspires me to keep going, to thrive even when circumstances feel tough.

Finding Your Spirit Animal

Identifying a spirit animal can be an organic, almost serendipitous process. Sometimes it’s an encounter in nature, like the time I crossed paths with a coyote during a run. Other times, it’s a metaphor that leaps out unexpectedly, like the bison on that menu. Regardless of how it happens, the essence lies in recognizing the animal as a symbol for your current journey—a reminder of the values, traits, or guidance you need.

A spirit animal can keep you grounded and focused on your mission, offering a constant point of reflection when life feels chaotic. It’s not about mystical beliefs; it’s about anchoring yourself in something that resonates deeply, helping you navigate challenges with clarity and purpose.

A Personal Call to Reflection

As I transition into this new phase with the bison as my guide, I’m reminded of the power of symbols in shaping our thoughts and actions. Whether it’s a bison, a frog, or another creature, the choice of a spirit animal can inspire growth, transformation, and a renewed connection to nature.

I invite you to take a moment and ask yourself: What symbol represents this season of your life? What traits do you need to embody, and what animal or force of nature might inspire you to get there?

The answer may come in a dream, a quiet moment, or even on a pizza menu. When it does, embrace it as a reminder of your strength, purpose, and the unique journey you are on.
