Day 232 – The Field Life Grows In

I was watching my daughter practice basketball this afternoon. She was struggling, yet stubborn. She kept pushing, even though I could tell she was frustrated. I remembered her as a baby, same exact expression on her face as she tried to climb up some stairs for the first time.

Determined, would not give up. Made me realize that each of us must have been special from the very beginning, even during conception.

Millions of opportunities for failure, yet we were the one that made it. Before you were born, countless possibilities ended, and one path continued. That does not mean you are destined to defeat every obstacle. It means failure has always been part of the process that made you possible. Every organism lives inside pressure, competition, chance, and struggle.

I watched her miss another shot. Then another. She did not stop. She adjusted her stance. She tried again. That is when it hit me. Organic life is all about failure. From the beginning, life emerges from failure. The path that led to you was littered with dead ends, false starts, and things that did not work. You are not here because everything went right. You are here because something kept moving forward despite everything that went wrong.

We treat failure like it is proof that we are broken. We see a missed shot, a failed attempt, a plan that did not work, and we assume we are not good enough. But failure is not the exception. It is the field life grows in. It is the environment where adaptation happens. It is the pressure that forces you to adjust, to try again, to become harder to stop.

My daughter did not make every shot. She did not need to. She needed to keep shooting. She needed to stay in the game long enough for her body to learn what her mind could not teach. That is how growth works. Not through perfection, but through persistence. Not by avoiding failure, but by continuing through it.

“Failure is not the exception. It is the field life grows in.”

So if you are struggling right now, if you are missing more than you are making, if you feel like you are not where you should be, remember this. You were built for this. You were forged in failure before you even took your first breath. The fact that you are here means you already survived a process that eliminated millions of other possibilities. You are not broken. You are doing what life has always done. You are adapting. You are continuing. You are becoming harder to stop.

The next time you fail, do not treat it like proof that you are not good enough. Treat it like proof that you are still in the game. Then adjust. Then try again. That is all you need to do.
