Sometimes you just need to go get a shovel and dig your way out. Instead of pontificating, handwringing, commiserating about how bad it is, sometimes you just need to realize that you are in a giant pile of you know what and you have to just simply dig your way out. Stop fighting it. Just go get a shovel and get to work. You can whine and complain all that you want to but at the end of the day you just have to realize you are standing neck deep in a giant pile of crap and the only way out is with brute force. Just start digging. That is where I am at right now with a project I am working on and I have been fighting and fighting my way around it, but I just have to accept the fact that life would be a whole lot easier if I just go grab a shovel and start digging.
