The Long and Lonely Road

Here is the deal. If you are on a personal improvement journey, the road is long and for the most part lonely. We get this idea in our head that life would be easier or better if we could get others to join in with us. We would have some co-conspirators if you will, a buddy system. Well if you wait for that, or if you rely on that, you are going to be very disappointed. That does not mean you will not pick up some allies along the way, you certainly will. However, they will drop off too. If you are on the road to a personal strength, personal commitment, personal health you will find very long stretches of road where you are by yourself, alone putting one foot in front of the other.

It as if you are on a long distance race. Most people see a marathon or other ultra marathon event on TV at the starting line. A mass of people all heading out, cheering together, looking great, having fun. What they do not see is mile 21, mile 41, mile 71, or even mile 91. In the dark of night, headlamp dimming, stains from the moment they got sick on the trail. They are alone for most the race, perhaps an occasional person that will pass or that they will pass, but for the most part you are alone, by yourself, with your own thoughts to keep you company.

That is the way it is in your personal improvement journey. Better get comfortable with your oneself. You better start dealing with the thoughts that ramble in your head. B Better tell that weak, punk, lazy, manipulative primal self inside your own head to shut the heck up, you are going to keep on going. Keep on running, keep on improving.
