The 365 Commitment

Influencer Status

So I was “interacting” with my daughter and playing around with some social media app, when she commented to me that I could get a bunch of free stuff if I reached influencer status on Instagram. Now I thought this was interesting. What a great marketing scheme, give someone a status level if they push your media platform in a certain way. If you prove to be really good at it, they will promote you to a a status level and voila you are in the upper elite of people who have proven to be absolutely the most gullible and marketable person possible. So I decided to look into it.

Now I have always known about this influencer thing. Not a stranger to the fact that people 30 years younger than me are making 3 times as much as I am sitting in their game rooms, recording themselves playing a Fortnight and talking to their fans as they do so. Alas, I am not sure I would ever be good at that. First off I am not that cute, second off I lose interest in video games after about an hour, and third I would probably say something that would get me chowned on the platform. There you go, you young super elites, see if you can figure out the “chown” reference. Us older geeks have our own language – take that!

At any rate, while browsing various tips from the social media elites on how to become an influencer, I could not help how meaningful the advice actually was. I thought I would pass on some of the lessons.

First, if you want to be considered an influencer the most important thing is to be original. Do not copy others, do not be a robot or lemming. Produce original content, of your own production and with your own creative spirit. This is the first and core tip from most influencers – be original.

Second, actually produce material and be consistent about it. If you want to be considered an influencer, you must create new and interesting content and be very consistent and a reliable source of new and informative material. So be consistent.

Third, branch out and talk to people. Actually communicate frequently and openly with others. Be bold and open up new dialog with people. Be friendly, open and listen to what others have to say. Do not be prudish, or arrogant. However, be nice and promote others as you promote yourself. So talk to others.

Fourth, advertise your brand with hashtags or other methods. Keep identifying your brand with consistency. Let people know who you are, what you stand for and what your brand is and how they can identify you in the future. So be your own brand.

Surprisingly, I thought this was just great advice in general. Be Original, Be Consistent, Talk to Other People and Be Your Own Brand.

There words to live by the the social media elites.
