The 365 Commitment

The Fourth Element

I interviewed a really cool person a few days ago. He outlined four core areas of personal strength that every whole person should focus on. The first three were mental, physical, and spiritual. He said the spiritual power was the most important. His reasoning was that the spiritual energy manifests in every thing that you do.

Now I was pretty pleased with myself. I have a triangle on a white board where I labeled these three points a while back. I decided those were the three areas of focus for all my goals. However, I was missing the fourth element. I did not even think of it. The fourth one, according to this person I was interviewing, is emotional.

Huh? I did not even consider emotional as worthy of consideration. I might have put financial as the fourth thing. Emotional?

However, today I was an emotional basket case. Going through a variety of ups and down. I did everything right today. Running and Pushups (physical), Meditation, Prayer and Reading (Spiritual), and Memorization Work and Chess Tactics (Mental). Yet, I was a complete mess. What is going on?

I forgot the fourth element. Looking at my new repertoire of habits, not one of them is focused on emotional strength. Guess I have some work to do.

Where do I even start on improving my emotional health? Please don’t tell me that I have to express myself openly and have an open book conversation with a loved one everyday! I am doomed if that is the case! What habit can I form that helps me improve my emotional health overtime?

Guess that will be a blog for another day.
