Day 8 – Doing the Laundry

The overwhelmed feeling. I have noticed that the 365 commitment (waking up each morning, creating a task list, praying about the list, setting priorities) has really helped me with the feeling of being overwhelmed. Everyone feels this way from time to time. Those days when you wake up and think of 1 or 2 things really bugging you, and then you see or think of a third thing and then you just feel like life is collapsing all around you. What is interesting about this commitment is that in the back of my mind I know that if an issue is really bothering me I can just add it to my list and prioritize it in the morning. Suddenly, it just does not feel overwhelming any more.

So this morning, I have a lot of great ambitions – centered around my primary goals in life. However, I am starting to feel overwhelmed. Then it hit me! I asked myself – “Self – what is the root cause of this feeling?” As I wrote down my list this morning – I noted two things that just felt like they were in my way and causing me stress. The first thing I wrote on my task list this morning was – Do the Laundry. I am prioritizing it #1.

Now I can think of a lot more important things to do then the Laundry. However, if I push this task off any further (as I am very opt to do) then there will be a few more trivial tasks that will accumulate and then one day I will wake up and just start feeling overwhelmed again.

You see? Feeling overwhelmed is a slow process of accumulating a bunch of unaccomplished things in your life until the weight of those things becomes unbearable. This is why for me, that feeling comes around every 2 weeks or so – I am feeling fine focusing on important things – I push the things like the Laundry off and then one day I wake up and I have added a few more things that are disorganized and I feel like I cannot handle it.

Instead of feeling overwhelmed with life – do the 365 commitment! Wake up in the morning and ask yourself the question. What EXACTLY is making me feel overwhelmed? Almost inevitably it will only be really 2 – 3 key tasks. Well – write them down, prioritize them and do them! After those 2 – 3 things are done you will suddenly feel the burden lifted, things will not feel so overwhelming and you will no longer feel overwhelmed.

So there you have it. I am putting down Do the Laundry – and I am not ashamed!

P.S.
Do you have a family member or friend that could really benefit from 365? Feel free to invite them – however – they must commit to the process! Make sure they understand how important a commitment this is and once you feel like they are on board then let me know and will send them their official invite.
