You absolutely must do something greater then yourself. If you do not then you are just existing. Just existing can be OK – however borrowing the thoughts from an ancient philosopher – you have two choices laid before you. You can choose to ACT or to be ACTED UPON.
So 365 Members choose to ACT. Those who are acted upon tend to bounce around in life with no real purpose, they are constantly at the whims of others, and unfortunately in many cases lose control of their lives. However, there is another path.
That is the path of the symbolic heroic knight that leaves the protected confines of the comfortable castle and heads out into the unknown on a quest to slay some fantastic, magic, cunning, very large and fire breathing beast. In my case I feel more like a small little hobbit setting out on a long journey to slay the dragon and less like a knight. In fact to quote Mr. Baggins – “It’s a dangerous business… going out of your door, You step into the Road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there is no telling where you might be swept off to.”
Dangerous? Yes. Taking a long journey to slay a dragon is never easy. However the ACT of doing so sets off a course of events what will change you for the better. We all have a dragon and perhaps two to slay. We really can decide to stay in our nice comfortable hobbit hole or we can get on the path and attempt to slay that dragon. You will not be ready to slay the dragon when you start out – but as you progress through the journey you will gain strength, experience, you will receive aid from unknown sources. You will discover that the dragon really does exist and it is large and terrible. However, you will figure out a way to slay it – heroes always do.
