Day 56 – Embrace the Suck

Inspired by David Groggins. Ben, one of our 365 Members emailed me about him. I watched a few videos on his story. Just a bit of warning, if you watch any videos about him be prepared for harsher words then suck!!

Anyway, potty mouth aside he has quite an amazing view on overcoming obstacles. I originally wanted to title this message – Visualize, but embrace the suck sounded more interesting.

When you wake up to do something great with your life sometimes things just suck. You just don’t feel right, you are grumpy, depressed maybe, upset about something, feeling fatigued or over weight. In top of all that it is raining outside….basically sometimes your condition just sucks.

David Groggins visualized his future. He did not know exactly what he would become. He did not know he would be a Navy Seal, Delta Force member and world record holder for pull ups. When he was a 300 lb discouraged and discarded human with nothing going on in his life he sat on his mom’s couch in their low rent dilapidated project apartment and started to visualize what he was going to be.

This is how he embraced the Suck. He woke everyday and visualized who and what he wanted to become. As he worked out, ran, did one more pull up he kept thinking about what he would become.

I have started to do this. I am visualizing what I am going to be in 365 days from now. My morning list is starting to reflect that.

So this morning when I woke up with a headache, it was raining and my shoe lace broke – I embraced the Suck, I visualized who I would become. I went outside, I ran, I did some sit ups in a puddle of water. Now the sun has broken through, my clothes are dry again and I feel one step closer to who I want to become.
