Day 77 – Disrupt Yourself

Do you like who you are right at this very moment? Here is an interesting thought for you to consider – your lifestyle is perfectly aligned to get the exact results that you are getting right now. Are you low on money? Are you low on esteem? Are you low on energy? Are you low on friends? Well, whatever you have been doing up to this point has produced that EXACT result.

Scary thought – but I think it is true. We cannot expect our lives to change if we continue to do the things that we have always done. If we like what we are getting, then we should continue to live our lives the way we are, but if we do not like what we are getting then we need to change.

When I say change, I mean disruption. You need to think this question – how can I disrupt myself? How can I completely change what I am doing now so that I can produce better results? This is a serious question and I do not think you should change for the sake of changing. I have been seriously considering my behaviors.

What behaviors do I do everyday that are are producing my current results. If I think carefully and analyze my day those patterns will begin to emerge. I will see things that I am doing that are obviously producing the results that I am getting. Honestly with yourself is really hard to do. You are very critical, perhaps too critical of yourself in some areas, however you are deliberately blind to things that are probably obvious to others but you try to pretend are not there.

Instead of thinking this thought – Oh, Karen (insert name here) must think I am lazy and a complete wreck she seems so perfect and put together. Think this thought – How does Karen really see me? Forget my internal dialog of self pity, ask the question – what does Karen really see when she talks to me? The answer is going to be real and something you need to take action on.

Another thought – who is your favorite person in the world? Who do you look up to the most? A famous actor? A political figure? A religious leader? A family member? For me I might say I really look up to Gandhi. A real disruptive person, a thinker, a person willing to do difficult things and not back down. So here is an interesting thought. If Gandhi was sitting in here in my home office right now and I asked him – what do you think of me? What would Gandhi say? What would Gandhi have me change about my life?

Of course you could do something really disruptive. You could ask Karen directly. Karen, when you see me – what do you see? I want a real answer Karen, do not worry about hurting my feelings. I want to know what you really think. I am trying to make improvements in my life and I could use an honest opinion right now.

That would be scary, however, the answer would be valuable. Do you want different results? Then you need to change your behavior, and you need to change the right behavior. Probably something you need to get right!
