Day 162 – Audacious Goals

Well in the spirit of audacious goal setting, I ran 8 miles today. I also ran at a pretty decent speed. 112 days ago when I started running, I barely trudged the length of a par 5 at a golf course (that is because it was on a par 5 at a golf course)! I had this audacious thought that I could one day get to the point of running 5 miles in the morning. Well I am now considering that audacious goal crushed!

Audacious yet reachable if I really stretch. That has become my new mindset. Identifying the areas in my life that I want to improve, and setting a audacious goal that will really require me to stretch to hit it. I will also make sure that steps long the way are consistently measurable. The 365 commitment is under revision, each day, I move toward a new iteration of improvement.

Today I am adding key results that are measurable to my commitments. As I plot my daily activities, make my commitments each day, I will make sure that I have a way to determine if I am having success or not and more importantly identifying a stretch point that I will be excited when I get there. Looks like I might have to increase my running goal on a weekday morning to be something like 20 miles. Cannot imagine that! 3 hours of consistent running! I imagine I could do it, however, other people do all the time in preparation for marathons.

Compared to what I looked and felt like 112 days ago, that concept was beyond even comprehension. I am starting to look for other areas in my life where I can adopt this same perspective. That is an interesting item to add to my 365 list this morning.

I wonder how I could measure being a better father? Will have to ask my kids that question and see what they come up with!
