Day 310 – First or Last

Similar to the glass half full or the glass half empty question is the concept of last or first. I have heard many self help gurus talk about treating today as your last day. This is supposed to be inspiring, I guess. If you knew today was your last day, how would you act?

I actually think the better question is, how would you react if today was your first day? The first day of your marriage? The first day of your new job? The first day after you accomplished your life ambition? Your first day of school? The first day of the rest of your life? The first day holding your child in your arms?

Even if you dont really believe that today is the first day, you can and probably should just pretend.perhaps you can start to fool yourself into a better attitude about life and about what you are doing. A last day mentality holds a bunch of potentially destructive personal memories, whereas a first day mentality is new and shiny. You are just starting out on the adventure, no baggage just all brand new gear.

Does it really matter that you stumbled on the journey, or that you were a little disappointed in a recent outcome? You can either believe that today is the start of a new journey, or that it is the final stretch of an exhausting trip.

So you are a first or last person?
