Everyday Awesome – 84 Days Left

Everyday Awesome. Can you visualize what that would be like? Have you even tried?

You might have said something to the effect, when I am independently wealthy (whatever that means), I will spend my days sipping my drink of choice on an exotic beach somewhere. That is about as far as you go in your thought process. However, would that really be the perfect day? Probably not. Sounds nice as you stare out at gloomy cold weather, or open your calendar and see a bunch of conference calls that you do not even remember what the purpose of them was. Yeah, sitting on a beach does sound pretty good right about now. However, I have been on a beach trying to do nothing for 5 days, and I can tell you I did not make it 5 days before I was going crazy. Yup, I get why Mr. Buffet had to have his blender constantly at hand. I would have to drink myself into oblivion as well if all I had laying on beach to look forward to, everyday.

So what is everyday awesome? Is that an attitude? Is that an expectation? Is that something to strive for and achieve? Pondering this morning, I came up with the concept that everyday awesome requires me to define what elements an awesome day requires. I took a moment and went though some top candidates. An awesome day might include:

  • Wake early with a RIDE AT DAWN mentality
  • Prayerfully start each day with a plan that is centered on what I value and aspire to the most
  • A physical strenuous activity where I am required to EMBRACE THE SUCK
  • An opportunity to keep my mind sharp by focusing intensely on learning and remembering something
  • Find myself in a deep, engaging conversation that allows me to elevate my mind to a new level of inspiration
  • Spend some time in a meditative state allowing for my mind to calm down and for my soul to relax, to stretch my mind, body and soul to new heights
  • An opportunity to really help another person in a meaningful way and that has an impact on both of our lives
  • An opportunity to serve those that I love, even if it is just to spend time with them
  • Consider, Measure, and Record what I eat, focusing on nutritional balance and my long term well being
  • Read from a source of great inspiration, taking the time to reflect and ponder on what I might be missing or not understanding about life and our purpose
  • Take the time to reflect, in written word, my thoughts and work to create something meaningful for future generations
  • Take enough time each day to focus a little on the important small matters in my life, household, finances, organization to keep myself from being overwhelmed by the practical in a tsunami of unattended crap
  • Focus on a task that is really important to my aspirations and work hard to accomplish it or to make significant progress
  • Be spontaneous – take on something unexpected, help someone in need, be marvelous in an unanticipated way
  • Prayerfully, end each day with a review of my plan and self reflection on how I did – close the day knowing that I did my best

So could I actually have a day like this? What if you had several days like this in a row? This is probably close to impossible. However, what would your everyday awesome be? I think I have discovered that slowly overtime I have built some habits that achieve some of these items on my everyday awesome list. Habits have a powerful way of getting you through some of these without having a lot planning, consternation or reluctance. I know that I will have achieved 8 of these items today at the very minimum and that is because of the habits that I have formed. I have to work and put in a full day on some projects I am working on, so I will run out of runway. At least I will achieve half of an awesome day – better then nothing!
