Blog 171 – No Plateaus, Pulling in The Slack

This is the Monday morning blog.  Yay Monday!

Today is the day I do 100 pushups.  I plateaued at 100 pushups after building up for a while and have maintained doing these twice a week for a while now.  I justified leveling off at 100 for time considerations, and I was happy with the improvements in my physique after months of working up to the magic 100 number.   Now, as long as I do 100 without any time restriction I have called it good. But, I am re-thinking  this decision.

I’ve become complacent and have not followed through with my goal of 100 pushups within 6 minutes, which is basically 1 minute of rest between sets of 25, feet elevated.  I think I will get back to this goal.  At minimum it means an improvement over my current condition.

I began to get second thoughts about this goal because a friend of mine who knows a lot about conditioning and training told me that less rest between sets build endurance, but more rest between sets builds strength.  The idea of more strength appealed to me, and the idea of not suffering with short rest periods seemed nice to, although I did not admit to this motivation.  Well, today I admit it!  I’ve been trying to avoid the suck!

Now, I will embrace the suck and go back to my original goal which is 4 sets of 25, with my feet elevated on a bench (builds better shoulders and upper chest and I like the plank feeling too), with 1 minute rest between sets only!  I’ll track my performance and report back this information tomorrow.

Time to embrace the suck and pull in on the slack!  Have a great day.
