Bear Lake Monster

In the northeast corner of Utah, north of Evanston Wyoming, and just south of Idaho lies a natural lake. It is probably one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Turqoise blue waters, white sand and rock beaches, surrounded by green hills and snow capped mountains. The lake is called Bear Lake. Many years ago, on a road trip I wanted to take a detour through Logan, Utah. This is a lille mountain village nestled in the Cache Valley. Not sure why I like it so much, perhaps it is the scenic area, the college town feel, the people or all the above. Maybe it is just the raspberries! Anyway, heading out of Logan, we dropped down into Garden City andI was able too see the lake for the first time. It was incredible, which is why I like to come back periodically.

There is a myth, that some writer made up a long time ago about a monster that lives in the depths of the lake. Even though he admitted the stories were hoax, the legend persists. Sightings now and then and lots of fun in local parades and menu items that you can order keep the monster alive.

Today I decided to run around the lake. The lake is so big that there is not one weather climate. I experienced several. Sun, wind, rain, and even hail. My son following as support crew on his bike, we ran along the coast, through small towns and stopped along the way to eat. As we ran, mezmerized by the almost tropical feel of the coastline, I came to a sudden realization.

I am the Bear Lake Monster.
