Today I came across the Blue Man and we spoke for a few moments. It was a reminder to never give up, to never doubt, to just press forward. The blue man is an older man in my neighborhood that really inspired me to continue to run everyday. Many years ago, I noticed this man dressed all in blue (blue shorts, blue shoes, blue shirt, and blue hat). He was walking off kilter, awkward angle and his arms hung in an uncomfortable posture. When I saw him again, I looked closer. One side of his face was paralyzed and he looked like he was really struggling with basic motor control. I learned later that he had suffered a severe stroke.

Every morning I would see this Blue Man walking around the block. Then one day I noticed that he was running around the block. Each and every day like clock work, running around the block. Then one day I noticed a difference. His posture straightened, his gait improved, he was swinging his arms in a slightly better way. Months went by and I would see him everyday, running. He improved, his face became less strained. He had a smile, his eyes gleamed a bit. He seemed to be enjoying himself.

I was just starting to run when I saw him again. I came across him and I smiled and waved. He returned the gesture, his smile only now slightly impacted by the effects of his stroke. His determination, will, and perseverance inspired me. If he can do this, then I can certainly do it. So I did. Today, feeling a little down, I was meandering my way through the neighborhood and there he was. Waving at me and smiling. Completely restored, a healthy old man with only one thing still the same. All dressed up in blue.
