Day 144 – Gnome Time

I woke up this morning and went into my backyard to see how my garden was faring. The rains came last night, and I was just checking to see if there had been any flooding. Much to my surprise, I encountered a gnome. He was roughly three and a half feet tall and wore what seemed like once-bright colors, now dulled by time. He also wore a mischievous smile.

He then asked, “What are you doing right now, young man?”

I replied that I certainly was not that young and that my business was my own.

Without skipping a beat, he said, “You are very young, in gnome time.”

“Well, what is gnome time?” I inquired.

He then said, as if almost in a trance, “Your seconds, your minutes, your hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades, and centuries are all gnome time.”

“How do I know what time it is in gnome time?” I asked with some degree of skepticism.

Just as the rain started coming down harder, just as my dogs started barking, the gnome said in a flash, “Gnome time is now.”

The moment was then gone, all sound drowned out by the rain. I stood there for a minute with wonder. Perhaps I am young after all.

I think I will start my day/week/month using gnome time instead.
