Day 42 – A Good Day with Balance

Today was leg day.  It was cold this morning but I put on my gear and got out the door.  Running from street lamp to street lamp where I would stop and do 12 rapid body weight squats.  Ten street lamps meant 120 squats, which warmed me up along with the runs between lamps in the dark cold morning over the ½ mile + route.

Then I headed over to the low hill I do my sprints on.  I completed four sprints, each about 120 yards uphill.  This is only the fourth Saturday that I have done sprints since my calf muscle healed up.  I am amazed at my improvement in such a short time.  Four Saturday’s ago I really struggled, and did not feel like I was running very fast at all; I was also cautious to not injure myself.  Today, I felt much faster and was able to push harder without injury, I felt much more fit.  Looking forward to seeing what will happen over the months ahead.

This kind of incremental improvement is encouraging and I have to count it as a “good day” and enjoy it, because I know that tough days are inevitable and will come.

In addition to exercise being a daily focus, I try to also focus on improving my relationships.  Tonight is date night with my wife.  This is an important habit I plan to hold to weekly.  It’s also the reason for the short blog today.  Got to balance those priorities!
